A Merchant Of Venice Essay Review

A Merchant of Venice essay should be reviewed as another masterpiece written by William Shakespeare based on the Merchant of Venice. The art of presenting a pictorial view of the period existing at the time should be very evident in this Shakespeare essay. Bassanio loves Portia, a wealthy heiress. He pays a visit to his wealthy friend Antonio’s home to ask for a loan. Antonio has invested in various ventures and is unable to offer Bassanio the loan. Instead, he takes him to Shylock, a moneylender. Antonio is ready to pledge his wealth as surety for the loan. Shylock sees his chance of seeking revenge for the ridicule he endured from Antonio and other Christian merchants for charging high interest rates and for being a Jew. He puts in a weird condition that if the loan was not repaid in three months, he would get his “pound of flesh.”

Portia’s father had sought a promise from her that she would marry the one who chose the right casket from among three kept as a test to check a suitor’s intentions. The three caskets made of gold, silver, and lead respectively. Several noblemen including a Neapolitan prince, and a Frenchman arrive but decide against taking the test. Portia is very happy, as she does not like any of them. But then she hears that the Prince of Morocco is arriving to try his luck. The Merchant of Venice essay must highlight the fact that she does not like him because he is black. The Prince chooses the golden casket which does not contain her picture. Unlike a Romeo and Juliet essay, the review should mention the fact that Portia is not willing to go against her father’s wishes.

Meanwhile, Bassanio has enough money and leaves for Portia’s home in Belmont. Shylock has a daughter Jessica who decides to elope with Bassanio’s friend, Lorenzo. She does so with her father’s gold. Bassanio arrives at Delmont. Portia is very pleased. To help select the right casket, she has a song sung to provide him a clue. He selects the right casket, and Portia pledges to marry him by giving him a ring which he is to never part with. Bassanio receives his friend Loranzo and Jessica with great pleasure. His joy is shortlived. He opens Antonio’s letter, which brings bad news. Antonio’s ships have sunk, and he is bound by Shylock’s condition.

Bassanio leaves for Venice to release Antonio from the pledge with money offered by Portia, who secretly follows him with Jessica. It is important to mention about the proceedings that take place in the Venetian court of justice. The literature essay must bring out the wit and language skills demonstrated by Portia disguised as Bellario, an eminent lawyer. Shylock is bent on revenge and does not agree to accept three times the money owed to him. Portia traps him by saying that not a drop of blood should be shed when he claims his pound of flesh. Shylock realizes his folly. He not only loses his claim but is sentenced to pledge his entire wealth and property to Jessica and Loranzo. The Merchant of Venice essay can conclude with the scene uniting all the couples. All ends well.

Character Analysis – Romeo And Juliet Essay

A Romeo and Juliet essay can really bring to life the many characters that have made this William Shakespeare’s tragedy the most performed and watched play the world over. The story is about two lovers who are destined never to be united forever. At a time when feudal culture was at its peak, the Montagues and Capulets are two noble families who never miss a chance to fight with each other. They are so notorious for disturbing the peace that the Prince of Verona announces that those found disturbing the peace would be severely punished. In the literature essay, this background should make it obvious that both families would be dictating terms for any sort of alliance between them. Here is a brief character analysis of the main characters in the play.

Romeo is the eternal romantic who first thinks he is in love with Rosaline, a girl from the Capulat family. On going to the ball organized at the Capulet house to meet the girl, he sees Juliet and falls in love with her. This is the typical example of “Love At First Sight.” In the famous “balcony scene,” he expresses his love for Juliet on learning that she too is in love with him and would willingly court danger to be with him. The Shakespeare essay should point out that he refuses to accept a duel with Tybalt over Juliet. A Romeo and Juliet essay should also highlight the fact that refusing a duel was considered dishonorable at the time. His emotional side and love for his family can be gauged by the fact that he eventually does fight and kill Tybalt, as he feels responsible for the death of his cousin, Mercutio. He is also impulsive and brave.

Juliet is born into the rich Capulet family. She is headstrong and can make her own decisions. Though she is not yet fourteen, she has already made up her mind that she loves Romeo and would face any danger to be with him. She is committed and loves Romeo with all her heart. The audience sees her as a timid girl who does not speak much. That she is strong and determined is evident when she refuses to marry Paris, a rich suitor. She is ready to take a drug that would make her unconscious for over 40 hours just to be with Romeo. In fact, she does get married to him secretly and their marriage is consummated. She does all this before she turns 15, and is the real hero in the play. Her intense and endearing nature has generated a lot of interest among viewers.

Paris is rich, handsome, and belongs to a royal family. He is in love with Juliet and proposes to marry her. He is patient and is willing to wait for two years till Juliet is 17 to marry her. Though arrogant of the fact that he has royalty is his blood, he is emotional and truly loves Juliet as is evident when he visits the crypt where Juliet pretends to be dead and mourns over his loss.

The Romeo and Juliet essay can also analyze other characters like Mercutio, Prince Escalus, and Friar Laurence.

A Shakespeare essay has to be a study on the marvelous works of William Shakespeare, one of the greatest playwrights of all time. His plays have enthralled a world audience for many decades and will continue doing so. Besides plays, he has also written several poems and was quite well known as the Bard of Avon. Through his illustrious career, he had written around 38 plays, 154 sonnets, and several other poems. What is truly amazing is that his plays are popular even now and have been translated into almost every language. People love his works and the sheer essence of life he brings into them with the use of language and poetry. His depiction of the times during which the plays and poems were written shows his deep knowledge of how society would look at events transpiring at the time. This can be highlighting through an essay writing exercise. He did not hesitate to use all the human emotions including jealousy, belief in the supernatural, bravery, divine love and sacrifice.

Shakespeare was born and raised in Stratford-upon-Avon, a house in Henley Street in Warwickshire, England. The house has been preserved in his memory and is still intact. He was an educated man and attended school at the Stratford Grammar School. He married Anne Hathaway, who was seven years older than him. Later, he left home and went to London to become an actor. Starting his career first at Blackfriars, he later moved on to Globe Theatres. His love for writing overcame his acting career even though he was a very good actor. A Romeo and Juliet essay can truly demonstrate his love for writing and romance.

He became well known in London and his plays started getting the due attention it deserved. He was criticized by some scholars at the time who tried to compare his works with university-educated writers. Shakespeare’s plays were performed by Lord Chamberlain’s Men, which was partly owned by him. After becoming the leading company in London, the name was changed to the King’s men as it received a royal patent from King James I. A research paper on the life of William Shakespeare would be able to cover the fame and appreciation he received for his many plays.

His plays have covered a wide range of topics including romance, comedy, history, tragedies, and even farce. Shakespeare was known to be a shrewd businessman who divided his time between London and Stratford. He had accumulated a lot of wealth through his successful writing career and company. Initially living in the parish of St. Helen’s Bishopgate in London, he rose to great heights and had to make a will to bequeath his amassed wealth to his wife and children. He died at the age of 52 and has a special place of rest at the Holy Trinity Church. Even in death, his writing skills and humor were evident as his grave was covered with a slab of stone with an inscription cursing those who moved his bones from his final place of rest. A Shakespeare essay can also elaborate on the extent to which he planned his life and death.

A Macbeth essay on the Tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare is one of his shortest but greatest plays based on the Holinshed’s Chronicles. Written around 1606, the play had many mishaps during production. Rumor has it that the play was cursed and was never mentioned aloud. Instead, it was called The Scottish Play. The play was based around the monarchy existing in England and Scotland at the time. Though very different from his other works like a Romeo and Juliet essay, Macbeth has been appreciated by people, as Shakespeare has been able to bring mystery and superstition to life in his play.

Macbeth is the kinsman and general in the army of King Duncan of Scotland. He is a man of valor and is introduced in the play as the one who defeats the allied forces of Norway and Ireland. Banquo is Macbeth’s ally in the war. An essay writing exercise can connect the different stages of the play. The three witches enter addressing Macbeth that he would one day be King. Banquo is told that though he would himself not be King, but his descendants would. It was a time when prophesies were followed up on. Macbeth tells his wife about the prophesies made by the three witches.

Lady Macbeth is very ambitious and superstitious. She believes that these prophesies would come true, but her greed does not allow her to wait. The deceitfulness demonstrated can be one of the Macbeth essay topics. She plans King Duncan’s murder and incites Macbeth to murder him when he pays a visit to their castle. Macduff, the Thane of Fife arrives at the castle to discover the dead body of King Duncan. Macbeth acts strangely and kills the guards who were stationed outside the King’s chamber. He is not the same man and Macduff suspects him of the murder. Following the murder, King Duncan’s son Malcolm and his brother Donalbain escape, while also Macduff goes into exile.

The Prophesy about Banquo haunts Macbeth. On becoming the King, he invites Banquo who arrives for a royal banquet with his son Fleance. Macbeth then hires killers and Banquo is killed. Fleance manages to escape. Macbeth goes back to the witches who prophesy three events. One is that Macbeth should beware Macduff. The second is that Macbeth would not be killed until Birnam Wood moved. The third was that no man born normally of a woman would kill him. Macbeth goes back relieved. A term paper on Macbeth must show the changes occurring in Macbeth’s character.

Guilt and shame pursue both Macbeth and his wife who supposedly commits suicide. Macbeth has to face an army led by Macduff and Malcolm. The witches prophesies start coming true, as first the army moves in camouflaging themselves with figs and branches which makes Birnam Wood appear to move. In the final stages of the play, Macbeth is confronted by Macduff who had a caesarian birth and is beheaded. Finally, Malcolm is made King. The prophesy about Banquo is also fulfilled as King James VI of Scotland was supposedly a descendant of his. The Macbeth essay can really bring to life the superstition existing at the time.

A definition essay on love strives to define it as an emotion felt and displayed by humans, animals, and all living beings in their own way. It is a topic that has been written about through the ages and has found its way into books on literature and religion. Love knows no bounds and language is never a barrier. Wars have been fought over it. People have been and are still influenced by the emotion of love. Some of the best literary works are based on love, and even movie makers bank on it to win over viewers and create a hit.

Love can be expressed in many ways. God has shown his love for us by offering us the emotion to share with others. In return, we love God for all the wonderful things he has given us. Our devotion towards God demonstrates love in the form of reverence. The love formed out of respect is the same love we have for our elders, family, and people we look up to. In a love essay, you could elaborate on love that one has for his family. It could be connected with religion, respect, or pure love not based on any conditions.

A Romeo and Juliet essay is the ideal love story between man and woman. The word “romance” has been used in many ways to show love and affection between Romeo and Juliet. In modern society, people who are romantically attracted exhibit their love for each other with the help of cards, gifts, and words of love. The way love is expressed changes materially but the emotion remains the same. Couples find love in sex, affection for each other, and by communicating with each other more frequently. In fact, mankind has evolved through love between Adam and Eve.

When you have to write a definition essay on love, aim to write a drama essay that incorporates love as its theme. It would generate interest among readers, and you would find many definition essay examples to choose from. The best way to write such an essay would be to look up dialogues from literary works of famous authors like William Shakespeare. Dialogues are the true expression of love that is exhibited through words. The best part is that you can refer to literary works written through the ages and get inspiration from the one you like the most.

There are several other definition essay topics you can choose. It basically depends on the audience you want to write for. The topics could be on relationships in the family. You could write about the love between brothers and sisters. How different is a father’s love for his children from a mother’s love?

You need to be old enough to really understand romantic love between two people, which is very intimate and sexual in nature. The aim of your essay differs with age. Choose more complex topics on love as you grow older. The emotion of love is progressive. You would be in a better position to write about love in its various manifestations when you personally experience it. The definition essay on love would truly carry your personal point of view, which of course would make writing the essay very easy.

Macbeth essay topics would generally test your knowledge about the play. Topics could be selected from the various acts or you could write about a particular character that fascinated you. This is a compelling masterpiece that details flaws in the character of Macbeth and how power can mislead a powerful hero and lead him to a fate that he finds unable to avoid.

Macbeth is a tragic hero. Unlike the love story you probably have written in a Romeo and Juliet essay, this hero wavers in his path to glory and bends his moral standards to attain power by using wrong means. This fills him with guilt that he finds difficult to deal with and finally meets with a tragic end. The character is powerful in what he achieves on the battlefield but helpless in what he perceives as the means to achieve further success. This could make a very good topic for you to write on.

The fear of being excluded from heaven creates disturbing thoughts in Macbeth. What controls his mind when he decides to murder Duncan is another area you could delve on. Each essay is different when it comes to the classics. For example, an Othello essay could be a review of the play’s characters, dialogues, or some of the famous quotes from the play.

The witches depicted in the play are symbolic in nature but are shown to affect the minds of the different characters in different ways. Each character affected by the witches behaves differently throughout the play after their thoughts have been contaminated. Banquo faces Lack of sleep as he is constantly thinking of prophesies. The affect is there for all to see in the end. The role of witches in the outcome of the play could be a good topic.

Life after the murder of Banquo and Duncan was never the same for Macbeth. The influence of Lady Macbeth which leads him to commit a crime he would probably never have committed otherwise is a matter of debate. You can elaborate on this very difficult topic if you are up to it in terms of research and reference from other sources. The story has its plot in place, but this drama essay has been written several times over. To find what might interest readers and expand on your thoughts about it you need to refer.

Tourists from different countries love to know about the culture prevalent in the country though its history. In your popular culture essay, you wrote about the different aspects of popular culture in a country. Similarly, plays form an inherent part of culture in any country. You have to perceive and look at it from the point of view of a tourist. You would find many presentations and topics to choose from when Macbeth is enacted. This information would be available over the internet in related forums and cultural sites. You could also get reference from a tourism essay.

When you choose Macbeth Essay topics just use all the reference sources at your disposal and then write the essay. If you do this correctly, you would find many readers for your essay.

A love essay has a lot to offer readers in terms of emotion, mystery, and the limits crossed over for expressing love. Love is a beautiful feeling that has no language or cultural barriers. Expressing love comes naturally to people, and those bereft of this feeling are the unfortunate few ones that would feel empty from within. Life is short and love is a tonic that keeps us in touch with our loved ones, friends, society, and even those who hate us. It is too powerful an emotion to express in just one line.

When you write a Romeo and Juliet essay, you speak of love which takes an extreme turn. Both the lovers face death and lose their lives over it. What can probably be more powerful than losing the very life that can expresses love? Feelings are a private domain of people. But love does not have any room for privacy. It needs to be expressed in order to be felt. In a drama essay, a loving and caring person creates effervescence all around her or him by spreading genuine love.

We see love expressed in different forms. For example, friendship is also a form of love. Friends form a big part of our lives where support and sharing forms a bond between friends. Sharing news, both good and bad, comes easy to friends. Younger friends share clothes and other fancy goods. As we grow older, we experience a different form of love. Friends remain for life, but now a new friend enters, who is probably our best friend.

Writing a good essay means writing about good things in life, which follow a system. Life has prepared that system for us where we meet the one we love the most, marry, and have children. The love shared between man and woman as husband and wife is perhaps the most intimate of all friendships. Nothing is lost in terms of how one feels or how one can share joy and remorse with one person for perhaps the longest period of time.

An essay on man would suggest that love between man and woman was created to last, but we see more relationships coming into our lives when children enter it. They become the center of our lives. We live to see our children excel and perhaps expect them to do better than we did at their age. This is love at its best. The love shared between our children and ourselves is just an extension of love that exists in all humans. We have to give into that emotion to experience it.

As we face life we come across many incidents that show us who loves us the most. A personal experience essay would highlight many such incidents that take place. Some of us are lucky to have made lifelong friends this way. The love shared between us due to one life-changing incident shows us exactly how much love can make life easy for us all if we are just able to share it. When you write your next love essay, consider these feelings and express them with freedom and joy.

An Othello Essay could be a review of the play’s characters, commentary, dialogues, or some of the famous quotes. The intention should be a critical appreciation of a very popular piece of literature that has enchanted people across the world with its theme and characters. You can summarize the five acts of the play. This would ensure you are well versed with the characters and plot to write a good review. Here are some ways you can go about it.

Read the book or notes on Othello. There is no short cut available before writing a review of the play. There is a good chance that when you have read it once, you would love to read it over and over.

Make notes after you have read it the first time. Write a detailed description of each act in your own words that you could refer to later as an abstract. The idea here is you would find the play using archaic English, especially for quotes. This would make a review difficult if you did not grasp the meaning in total or how to link one act to the other.

The play has been so popular that you would definitely find a movie on it to help you understand the play. There are several themes that can be exploited when you write a review. Similar to a Romeo and Juliet essay or a Hamlet essay, the Othello essay also can reviewed on the emotions of love, betrayal, and the ethnic fabric of society at the time.

Shakespeare has created powerful characters in the play that can stir emotions. It will force you to think of ways and means to comment on the various chapters. How each emotion is blended into the characters and how it evolves into betrayal and greed for power could provide you with the topic you need to elaborate on this aspect. When you read it, ideas will takes shape in your mind.

The quotes from the play have captivated the minds of many. Their rendition has brought accolades to those who could bring out the essence and feeling in those quotes. These are time-tested favorites of Shakespeare lovers. You could review each character in connection to those quotes. Explain what motivates those characters. This has to be in the backdrop of the time and period the play was enacted.

A descriptive essay can also be custom essays you wish to write. To do this you would need help from reviews you feel has set the play apart from others. So you find those reviews and make a balanced decision of how to use the views in your essay. Get information from the internet. Look for lectures of famous people who have reviewed the play earlier. This would put you on the right track.

Some of the topics you could use would be an analysis of the tragedy, comic relief in Othello, the images that were created to depict war and peace in the play, analysis of the characters, and The Venetian society backdrop that defined what was good or bad according to social beliefs that existed at the time.

The essay outline should follow the pattern that is standard and universal in a drama essay. You need not experiment here. Just focus on your review of the topic you have chosen, and you would have written a captivating Othello essay.

A Hamlet essay has to be a review of a great literary work. You could take a stand either to support or argue on a particular chapter of this masterpiece. It would generally be a review using critical appreciation of any of all the characters you wish to write about, a picturesque view of episodes, or a complete description of the whole works as an abstract. In all these instances, you would have to be an ardent fan of the Shakespeare way of presentation if you have to get into this exercise. Consider the following when trying to present your viewpoint.

This is another era you would be writing on. The atmosphere, the ambiance, and the settings used for this literary masterpiece cannot be reinvented in words. Create a picture the era in your mind. When you read Hamlet, you can relive the era. Bring the same settings in your essay. If you were to write a review with a modern backdrop in mind, readers would not be able to appreciate what you wish to imply.

It would be wise to remember that people who have read Hamlet are ardent fans of Shakespeare. Your comments have to be based on logic that would spur readers to look at Hamlet from your point of view. The review need not be controversial to gain attention. Hamlet has such a powerful storyline that you would have no difficulty in finding the right topic or chapter to talk about. It is a drama essay, so you have the liberty to be imaginative and creative in your approach.

The best way to ensure readers about what you write would be to choose a topic which most readers would love to read about over and over again. This would also mean that your language skills have to be impeccable. Make it your opinion essay with the right blend of literary reference.

Read the play over and over again till you have fallen in love with it and are confident of playing a character in the play. This would have to be your commitment on the subject. The good part is that Hamlet is such a great play that writing on it would help you write an Othello essay or a Romeo and Juliet essay.

The approach can be similar to a media essay. This is an area where technology can be used to recreate the splendor of the period and characters. It should be used to recreate a vision of the old times and not to present an adaption in writing. You could include pictures, audio with dialogue rendition, and animation. Readers have to identify with it.

A safe approach would also be to compare with other great works of Shakespeare. Again, when you recreate the ambiance surrounding the characters, you debate on points you have chosen with clear vision and in detail. If you can do this, you would come up with a great Hamlet essay which would be appreciated by a majority of your readers.

Frankenstein essays were born out of a character that just could not be ignored. What started as an innocent contest to write ghost stories resulted in one of the first science fiction classics. The story has been passionately followed by millions of people around the world. Initially considered just a disturbing piece of writing has raised many questions among the best critics going beyond the theory of expression and story telling.

Movies and television has accepted the character like one of its own and created and recreated versions and variations of the story line. Though there are different versions of this classic, the novel got due acclaim just for its bold rendition and examination of human nature in times of adversity. The symbolic characters justify their actions evoking a debate of right over wrong. Many of the events of the last century are reflected though the themes evolving in the novel. Frankenstein essays would therefore discuss the essence of good prevailing over evil, and how fear can be overcome.

In today’s world, we see people craving for peace in a troubled world. Knowledge, money, and power are high on the list of things to be achieved. In a drama essay, Frankenstein is symbolic of the many characteristics of determination we see in society. When a goal is set, how important is it to draw a line. Determination could bring grief to a large section of the same society we live in, if we stop distinguishing between right and wrong. The novel depicts the ugly nature of humans where desire and ambition leads to the creation of a monster.

Time has passed but Frankenstein lingers in our minds. An English essay or an art essay would appropriately discuss these different aspects of human nature. Language and art bring characters alive, which sometimes can get out of control. The consequences though can be controlled by us when we understand our limitations and learn to balance determination with a happy ending.

A Romeo and Juliet essay would evoke passion and justify that everything is fair in love and war. We see death did not take away the passion and glory both Romeo and Juliet were able to evoke among people through the generations. It has remained a timeless classic and is categorized as a love story. With Frankenstein, much deeper insight is needed to assess the character of a demon which people loved to hate. When good prevails over evil, a feeling of anger towards evil is more evident. The character of Frankenstein will be remembered only for that.

When we take up a criminology essay, every aspect of Frankenstein’s character would be studied in context to the crimes he committed. The danger to society and what power can do to bring about that danger is a subject which requires to be discussed more often. Mankind has not left Frankenstein behind. We still see terrorism showing us shades of determination where relevance of right and wrong is not considered important. Frankenstein essays should therefore be written to debate this very issue that is becoming a danger to society.
